Laura Huff
On-Site Trainer • 30+ Years Experience
Laura Huff has been offering equestrian training in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado for over thirty years. She sees what a horse needs quickly and builds training plans around it -- not around a one-size-fits-all methodology.
She works with all levels, from riders just getting started to those preparing for competition. Her approach is patient and direct: horses should be confident, and riders should understand why they're asking for what they're asking for.
Laura is on the property daily and takes a limited number of training clients. Call her directly to discuss your horse and get a feel for the fit before committing.

Disciplines: Dressage, English, Western & More
Dressage
Laura's primary discipline. She holds a USDF Bronze Medal and has competed and placed at regional level. She works with dressage horses and riders from Training Level through Prix St. Georges.
English
Hunter/jumper, pleasure, and eq work. Solid fundamentals for riders who want to develop their seat and hands before specializing in a specific English discipline.
Western
Western pleasure, trail, and all-around. Laura's cross-discipline background means she understands the biomechanics underlying both English and western riding -- which makes her a better teacher in either.
Starting Young Horses
Laura has started many horses under saddle. Patient, methodical, and focused on building confidence in the horse before adding pressure. This is where the foundation gets set right.
Horses should be confident. Riders should understand why.
Laura's approach isn't complicated: if the horse is tense, you fix the tension before you add a new ask. If the rider doesn't understand the reason for an exercise, they can't repeat it on their own. Both of these have to be true before you move on.
That means training sessions sometimes look like problem-solving sessions -- and that's intentional. A horse or rider that's been correctly trained through a problem is more solid than one that's been drilled around it.
Laura takes a limited number of clients at a time. If you're interested, the best first step is a phone call to talk through where you and your horse are.
